Live trackers for assets that leave the yard
Last updated:
A live tracker has its own GPS receiver and 4G connection, so it reports its position from anywhere. Use it on high-value machines and on units that go out to a site on their own, such as light towers or generators. A tag tells you where an asset is on your yard. A live tracker tells you where it is on the road or on a customer’s site.
When should I use a live tracker instead of a tag?
Section titled “When should I use a live tracker instead of a tag?”| Asset | Use |
|---|---|
| Stays on your yard or travels on your trucks | Tag |
| Goes out alone to a site for days or weeks | Live tracker |
| High value, where you want its position on the road | Live tracker |
| Attachment that rides with a machine | Tag, heard by a vehicle gateway |
What does a live tracker report?
Section titled “What does a live tracker report?”It reports the GPS position of the unit over 4G, so you see where it is outside your sites. Inside a site, the asset also lands in a zone like any other.
Can a live tracker work with tags?
Section titled “Can a live tracker work with tags?”Yes. A live tracker also hears the tags near it, so it can act as a parent for the attachments around it. See Parent and child.
