Mounting tags on machines, attachments and tools

Last updated:

Your own team can fit the tags. Standard tags go on steel with a magnetic mount, or with adhesive pads, screws or cable ties. Rugged tags hold with a built-in magnet, and Mini tags fit on tool cases and small equipment with a pad or a cable tie. Pick a spot that is protected from knocks and the wash bay jet, then link the tag to the asset with two scans in the app.

Asset Good spot
Excavator or loader Inside the cab or on a flat panel away from moving parts
Bucket or breaker A flat steel surface on the back, away from the cutting edge and hitch
Container or cabin Inside, next to the door
Generator or compressor Inside the housing or on a frame member
Tool case Inside the lid

Avoid spots that take hits, get blasted in the wash bay, or are fully enclosed in thick steel, which weakens the signal.

  • Magnetic mount (Standard tag): place it on clean, flat steel. Nothing to drill or glue, and the tag moves to the next machine in seconds.
  • Adhesive pads: clean and dry the surface first. Press for a few seconds.
  • Screws: use the mounting holes for assets that see heavy wear.
  • Cable ties: for frames, handles and rails.
  • Built-in magnet (Rugged tag): place it on clean steel. Nothing else is needed.

Open the Hirro app, scan the tag, then scan the asset’s label or pick it from the list. Two scans link them. The asset now reports itself whenever a listener hears the tag.

Yes. When an asset leaves the fleet, take the tag off, unlink it in the app and link it to the next asset. The Standard tag’s battery can be swapped, so a tag can serve several assets over its life.
