Quickstart

Last updated:

You can set up a first site in a day with tags and staff phones only. Draw the zones of your site, install the app on the phones of people who walk the yard, and link each tag to its asset with two scans. From then on, every walk updates the inventory. Gateways and live trackers can come later.

  • A Hirro plan for the site. See Plans.
  • One tag per asset you want to track. A Starter kit has 100 Standard tags and ships from stock in Belgium within 2 weeks. See Tag lineup.
  • Staff phones with Bluetooth that can run the Hirro app.
  • A plan or aerial view of your site, to draw zones on.
  • Your asset list, ideally exported from your ERP.

Open the web dashboard and add your site. On the plan of the site, mark the areas your team already uses: rows, racks, the gate, the wash bay, the workshop and the dispatch area. Give each zone the name your team says out loud. A search answers with that name, so “Row B” works better than “Zone 7”. See Zones and stages.

Import your asset list from the ERP or a spreadsheet. Each asset keeps its own number and name, so the inventory reads like your register. If you plan to link Hirro to the ERP, keep the ERP item number on each asset. See ERP and exports.

Mount the tag on the asset, open the phone app, scan the tag and then scan the asset. Two scans link them. From then on the asset reports itself whenever a listener hears its tag. See Mounting tags.

Step 4: How do staff phones start reading?

Section titled “Step 4: How do staff phones start reading?”

Install the Hirro app on the phones of people who walk the yard and sign them in. The app listens in the background, so staff only open it to search or to link a tag. Choose the privacy mode first: tag sightings only, or tag sightings with the phone’s location. See Security and privacy.

Step 5: What should I check after the first week?

Section titled “Step 5: What should I check after the first week?”
Check Where What good looks like
Assets never heard Dashboard, filter on “not heard” Every tagged asset heard at least once
Zones that stay empty Map Each zone has assets, or the zone is drawn too small
Rows nobody walks Map Add a site gateway or a walking route there
Phone battery Ask the team About 3 to 5% per shift, the figure from our field test

Add site gateways where a stage should log itself, vehicle gateways on the trucks that move attachments, and live trackers on units that leave the yard alone. Then link Hirro to your ERP.
