How Hirro works

Last updated:

Hirro works in three steps. A tag on each asset sends a short Bluetooth signal every few seconds. Staff phones with the Hirro app hear that signal and report it, and gateways or live trackers can add to them where needed. Hirro turns each report into a zone, a stage and a last sighting for the asset, adds it to the asset’s history, and shows the result on a map, in search and in your ERP.

A tag is a small Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon fixed to an asset. It sends a short signal every few seconds. It has no GPS and needs no charging: a coin battery runs it for years. A tag on its own knows nothing about where it is. Its position comes from whatever hears it.

Four kinds of listeners hear tags. Staff phones are enough to start. The other three are add-ons for specific jobs, and you can mix them per site.

Listener Where it sits What it adds
Staff phone with the Hirro app In the pockets of people walking the yard Every walk becomes a count, with no fixed hardware
Site gateway, optional At the gate, wash bay, workshop or in a hall A zone that updates itself and logs every pass
Vehicle gateway, optional On a truck or carrier Which attachments ride along with which vehicle
Live tracker, optional On a unit that travels alone GPS position over 4G, anywhere

Each time a listener hears a tag, it sends a sighting to Hirro: which tag, which listener, when and how strong the signal was. Hirro matches the sighting to the zones you drew on a plan of your site and places the asset in one zone, such as Row B or the wash bay. On the spot, the radar in the phone app guides you the last metres. Hirro reports zones, not coordinates. See Zones and accuracy.

A stage is where an asset is in its turnaround, for example returned, washed, checked or ready to rent. When a site gateway sits at the wash bay or workshop, an asset that passes it moves to that stage on its own. Hirro then shows how long assets wait in each stage.

Each asset gets a digital twin: its usage ledger of zones, stages, trips and rentals, its maintenance log and plan, wear flags and its certificates with expiry reminders. See Digital twin and maintenance.
