## Can I track equipment without gateways?

Yes. Staff phones with the Hirro app hear tags as people walk the yard, so you can start with tags and phones only. Add site gateways later where a stage should log itself. See [Walk-by scanning](/tracking/walk-by/).

## What do I need to buy to start?

Tags for the assets you want to track and a plan for the site. Staff phones with the Hirro app do the reading, so you need no gates or beacons to start. Add gateways later where a stage should log itself. See [Plans](/reference/plans/).

## How accurate is Hirro?

Hirro places each asset in a named zone of your site, such as Row B or the wash bay, and the radar in the phone app guides you the last metres. It does not report positions in metres. See [Zones and accuracy](/tracking/zones-and-accuracy/).

## Does the app drain staff phones?

In a field test on a Belgian rental and crane yard in October 2026, the app used about 3 to 5% of phone battery per shift.

## Does Hirro track employees?

No. Hirro tracks tags. In tag-only mode, the phone reports which tags it hears and nothing about where the person is. You can choose to include the phone's location if your policy allows it. See [Security and privacy](/reference/security-and-privacy/).

## How long does a tag battery last?

The Standard tag runs up to 3 to 4 years and the Rugged tag up to 8 years, depending on how often the tag broadcasts. The Standard tag's CR2477 battery can be swapped. See [Batteries](/hardware/batteries/).

## How do I fix a tag to a machine?

On steel, with a magnetic mount: nothing to drill or glue. Otherwise with adhesive pads, screws or cable ties. The Rugged tag has a built-in magnet. See [Mounting tags](/hardware/mounting-tags/).

## How long does hardware delivery take?

Starter kits are in stock in Belgium and ship within 2 weeks. Other kits and custom orders ship in 5 to 6 weeks. See [Buy, lease or bring your own](/hardware/buy-lease-or-bring-your-own/).

## Can I use tags I already have?

Yes. Hirro reads standard BLE tags in the iBeacon and Eddystone formats at no hardware cost. Other protocols need a one-off integration.

## How do I know which attachment left with which machine?

A vehicle gateway on the truck, or a live tracker on the machine, hears the tags that ride along and records the vehicle as their parent. See [Parent and child](/tracking/parent-and-child/).

## Can Hirro plan maintenance?

Yes. Each asset has a digital twin with a maintenance log, service intervals in days or in rental use, wear flags and certificates with expiry reminders. See [Digital twin and maintenance](/app/digital-twin/).

## Which ERP systems does Hirro work with?

Any ERP, including SAP, Odoo and Microsoft Dynamics, through a connector, the API or an export. See [ERP and exports](/integrations/overview/).

## Can I ask ChatGPT or Copilot where an asset is?

Yes. Through the Hirro MCP server, ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot answer questions from your live inventory. See [MCP server](/integrations/mcp-server/).

## Which languages does the app support?

The app is multilingual, and we can add any language your team needs.

## Where is the data stored?

In the European Union, on Amazon Web Services.

## How long does it take to start?

A first site can run in a day with tags and staff phones. An optional pilot runs on one zone of your yard for 2 weeks, with the results reviewed together. See the [Quickstart](/start/quickstart/).
