# Tag battery life and battery swaps

> How long Hirro tag batteries last, what changes battery life, and how to swap the CR2477 battery in a Standard tag.

A Standard tag runs up to 3 to 4 years on its CR2477 battery, and a Rugged tag up to 8 years. Battery life depends on how often the tag sends its signal: more often means faster updates and a shorter life. The Standard tag's battery can be swapped at the workbench in seconds, so the tag itself is reused.

## How long does a tag battery last?

| Tag | Battery | Battery life |
|---|---|---|
| Standard tag | CR2477, 1000 mAh, swappable | Up to 3 to 4 years |
| Rugged tag | - | Up to 8 years |

## What changes battery life?

The broadcast interval: how often the tag sends its signal. A shorter interval makes assets appear sooner when someone walks past, and uses the battery faster. Cold also shortens battery life.

## How do I know a battery is running low?

Each tag reports its battery level with its signal. Hirro shows it on the asset, so you can plan swaps before a tag goes quiet.

## How do I swap a Standard tag battery?

Open the tag housing, replace the CR2477 cell, and close the housing so the seal sits flat. The tag keeps its link to the asset.

## Does a lease include battery swaps?

Yes. Leased hardware includes battery swaps and replacement of failed units over the 36 months. See [Buy, lease or bring your own](/hardware/buy-lease-or-bring-your-own/).
