# Phone app

> The Hirro phone app hears tags in the background, finds an asset with search and the radar, links new tags with two scans and shows the asset passport.

The Hirro phone app does four jobs. It listens for tags in the background while staff work, it finds an asset through search and the radar, it links new tags to assets with two scans, and it shows each asset's passport. Staff open it only to search or to link a tag. The rest of the time it runs on its own.

## What does the app do in the background?

It hears the Bluetooth signal of every tag within range and reports each sighting to Hirro. Nobody has to open the app for this. In the October 2026 field test it used about 3 to 5% of phone battery per shift.

## How do I find an asset?

Search by name, number or type. The result shows the asset's zone, its stage and when it was last heard. Walk to the zone, open the finder, and follow the radar: it shows the tag's signal getting stronger as you get closer.

## What is the asset passport?

The passport is the asset's record in Hirro. It holds:

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Zone and last sighting | Row B, heard 2 minutes ago |
| Stage | Ready to rent |
| Parent | Last seen on truck TR-07 |
| Tag and battery | Standard tag, battery 82% |
| History | Zones and stages over time |
| Photos | Condition photos taken in the app |
| ERP item | The item number in your asset register |

The examples use fictional assets. The passport is the front page of the asset's [digital twin](/app/digital-twin/), which also holds its maintenance log, service plan and documents.

## Which phones does the app run on?

The app runs on Android and iOS phones with Bluetooth, including rugged handhelds. It is multilingual, and we can add any language your team needs.

## Can the workshop log a service in the app?

Yes. Open the asset and log the service, repair or part next to the machine. It lands on the asset's [digital twin](/app/digital-twin/).

## Can staff see where colleagues are?

No. The app tracks tags, not people. In tag-only mode it reports only which tags it hears. See [Security and privacy](/reference/security-and-privacy/).
